donut friday

Here is a fun little post for you today, not sponsored just a little local small town support! Vernon has two kinds of people who live here, families who have lived here their whole lives, generations of Vernonites! Then there are people who move to Vernon from surrounding cities because in a thriving economy yet very expensive economy Vernon is probably the most affordable without living 40 miles from a grocery store.  I would say my general family falls in the first of the two however I (and my husband and daughter!) are new back to Vernon after 20 years of being gone, so I guess technically we may fall in the latter of the two.

Being new back to Vernon is actually great because you want to explore and see what is out there. Figuring out new restaurants for yourself can be tricky but if you talk to someone who have lived here for their whole life they already have their favorite. This brings me to todays post, about #donutFriday in Vernon put on by Ratio Coffee Shop

On Wednesday's Ratio puts out a menu of their Friday Donut specials. They are always different and always gourmet donuts (they also have a vegan and gluten free option). You can either order ahead of time, from Wednesday - 9am Friday morning and pick up your donuts at the shop after 11am OR you can head into the cafe and see what is available (or left!) at your convince. Usually, they say all the donuts are out by 10am but the line is also out the door so it is a gamble.

I ordered ahead of time since the menu is not the traditional chocolate with sprinkles or old fashioned glazed and I know my family is a bit picky. We picked them up at 11:30 and had some for lunch! These donuts are traditional donuts; rich, filling, and delicious. Plus they come in the cutest pink boxes which is worth the price itself!

Stephen and I couldn't eat all 6 donuts if we tried, so I dropped the rest off at my moms house while she was at work. She and Sofia were having a sleepover that night so when they came home from school they had a great surprise! Apparently Sofia gobbled them up, all except the apple fritter which in regular donut life is her absolute go to.

If you are ever in the Okanagan visiting, make a trip to Vernon on a Friday and get yourself some donuts!

Oh my goodness! I never find donuts this cute where I live. I love how unique they are and that they're not just the typical glazed or jelly filled kind.
