splurge vs. save

spluge vs save

nude heels - splurge | save // burgundy boots - splurge | save // pink coat - splurge | save

I love fall/winter clothing. Its comfy, stylish, cute, and just overall makes you feel great. What I don't love? The prices! Especially living in Arizona I just can not justify spending a lot of items I know I may wear for a month or two. If I lived else where… humm DC, NY, Connecticut, Colorado we would be talking a different story. I put together a little splurge vs. save for you on my 3 favorite items I am ding to add to my wardrobe. I am debating on spending the sludge $$ for the nude heels… those babies are a. beautiful! and b. I can wear all year around! Shhh though, let' not tell the bf where his christmas fund went!!

How much are you loving this sweater?! As I mentioned in last weeks post, burgundy is the color this season! I just can't seem to get enough of it, it just screams fall & cozy. I received this sweater from LuLu*s to wear to on my trip to Aspen which I did however blogger fail I didn't get a chance to take outfit pics…boo. Instead I wore it again this past weekend to a pumpkin patch to pick out my special pumpkin for the year. It has been a little stormy here in AZ, the morning finally feel like fall but as the day goes on the temp climbs. I wore a tank top under this fabulous RD style sweater incase I got too toasty!

dressing for family photos….

It's a difficult thing dressing your family for those oh so perfect fall photos we take each year. I get asked the same question over & over….. what should we wear?! What colors?! Should we match?! Should we all be different?! Should we have a theme?! Today I am answering what I suggest to my client when they are getting their family ready for the perfect snap shot.

My example family is a session I just did last week. They asked the question, what should we wear, any ideas for this season? Knowing we had chosen a green nature background I suggested: neutrals (creams, golds, whites) and maybe a pop of burgundy. I am loving burgundy for Fall.  I think that will really complement the photos and background without looking too "christmasy"! Needless to say they NAILED IT!

Lets start with the ladies! For Mom on the left: she wore a beautiful cream sweater dress with mid length boots in black. I loved the cow neck on the dress, very age appropriate yet stylish and adding a belt gave her some style and shape.. sassy! For the eldest sister in the middle: denim is always a good look for family photos being that it is casual yet can be dressed up nicely. You know that trying but not trying look? For the pop of burgundy Samantha got the statement color, she toned it down by adding a light fur vest (in neutral colors) and a statement necklace. She also chose high tan boots to match the vest! For the youngest sister on the right: Cat wore dark denim to match her sister and also a fur vest (in neutral colors) she has burgundy nails + lips to still keep the color scheme while choosing a nice white blouse and statement earrings. These ladies look wonderful together, complementing each other yet still keeping their unique personalities separate. In order words they matched without being matchy-matchy!

When we add in the men, who lets face it taking photos is not high on their priority list, its best to keep. it. simple! Both men match nicely by wearing basic denim, belts, and white colored shirts. They look polished and put together but still match the rest of the family. Perfection!! Oh and we can't leave out George the great dane! He has a nice neutral scarf in grey on to blend into the family.

Making pets apart of family photos is key. Everyone asks to bring their dogs and my answer is always yes! BUT I don't always make the dog the main component in a lllll the photos. One or two fun shots is great  (as pictured above!!) and then the doggy becomes my helper by sitting next to me as I continue to shoot the rest of the family.

There you have it, a picture perfect family!!!

destination bachelorette party

skirt on sale! (HERE) clutch (SIMILAR) booties (HERE) ℅ LuLu*s // scarf (SIMILAR) ℅ Aeropostale // top (HERE): Forever21 // hoops (SIMILAR): Aldo // lips: MAC in 'Pink Pigeon

Continuing on with my Aspen trip I can't leave out the destination bachelorette party we threw the bride! It wasn't anything too craze so get your heads out of the gutter!! But we did have some (or a lot) of wine, snacks, champagne, and photos! All the girls wore black as the bride wore gold & white sequins!

I wanted something sassy yet warm for this shin dig. I wasn't going too fancy or clubby as we were in our hotel room & then off to some low key lounges. I LOOOVE this BB Dakota pleated vegan leather skirt from LuLu*s. It was perfect for the occasion & can still be worn in may different ways this fall! (expect to see it a lot on the blog & insta) I paired it with this lace crop top (worn at last years PHX Fashion Week HERE) some little booties and for a pop of color I added my blush pink scarf & clutch! Perfect outfit for a destination night out with the girls!! Oh, and yes I wore a peacoat so I didn't freeze, not pictured.

Aspen wedding weekend with LuLu*s...

jeans (SIMILAR): Paige Denim // jacket (HERE) (SIMILAR) ℅ LuLu*s // shirt (SIMILAR): Nordstrom // boots (HERE): DSW // scarf (SIMILAR): H&M // bag (HERE) ℅ LuLu*s // sunnies ℅ Sears // lips: MAC in 'Vegas Volt

If you follow me at all on Insta (hint hint, you should!) you would know that I just spent 5 days last week up in Aspen shooting one of the most phenomenal weddings I have ever seen! I have been to Colorado once in mid winter and did pretty much nothing but sit in the lounge and indulge in hot chocolate and baileys. This time was a little different, as the bride was my friend we had location scouting to do, bachelorette party to have, rehearsal dinner & welcome party! of course the wedding its self & finally the morning after brunch. That is a lot of warm outfits for the Arizona girl to come up with!

Thank goodness for LuLu*s who saved by life by keeping me warm and stylish for my weekend. As I was not only a guest at all these events I was also the photographer so comfort was a huge key! This outfit was perrrrfect for day one. We hoped a jet to Aspen, landed about 9:30am and the day was brisk and beautiful! I walked the cute little town, had some lunch at Justice Snow's & scouted the perfect location for the couples first look. This weekender bag from LuLu*s was a life saver! I was caring my camera, tri pod, accessories…. and it all fit perfectly. The bag also doubled as my carry-on which allowed more than enough room for me to throw anything I needed in!
