Lyla's Winter ONEderland 1st birthday

January 26th, 2020
Happy First Birthday to our baby girl Lyla Rose!

Picking a first birthday theme can be difficult! I mean, I started thinking about Lyla's birthday back in October. (I know, I know!)  I wanted to celebrate her in a "pretty" way,  just wasn't sure if I wanted a big party or just the family. Turned out we had a medium size with both greats friends & the family! Her birthday fell on a Sunday (the Sunday between the last football game & the Super Bowl so Stephen was VERY happy about that!) we decided to do a little brunch & play date... with lots of desserts! The theme, Winter ONEderland!

Since our home is so small we rented the club house in my Mom's community, it worked perfectly! The downfall with not having the party in your own home is the set up portion. We were not allowed to get in the night before so I woke up at 6am & headed over to decorate away. Thank goodness for my mom & friend Jen who were also there to help me! I do not handle stress very well (I get easily flustered) so they both keep me grounded. We set up in record time & I even got the chance to race home to shower.
We went with the theme Winter ONEerland for a few reasons. First, it only made sense as there was 3ft of snow on the ground outside. Secondly, Christmas had just passed so collecting decor at a discounted price was super easy & cheap. We will definitely be using this decor next winter to decorate the house.... I kinda planned it that way :)

Decor:

balloon arch - Amazon.com
Winter ONEderland cake topper - Amazon.com
snow flakes - Walmart (we tied fishing line to each flake to give the appearance of them floating)
bottle brush trees - target dollar section, dollarama, Walmart
gold deer - dollarama
12 month banner - amazon.ca
ONE banner - amazon.ca
tulle skirt for high chair - made myself with this color + this color from amazon.ca
1 gold candle - Amazon.com
mirrored picture frames - old, from Ross
glass trees - old, from Hobby Lobby

Lyla's outfit:
dress - Winners (similar)

My outfit:
sweater - Abercrombie (similar I loved this one)
jeans - Old Navy (similar)
bralette - Free People
shoes - Le Chateau

                                                                       Activities:
We had 14 kids come to this party & since it wasn't at a home I knew I needed something to keep them all entertained. Other than eating of course! With ages ranging from 6 month - 10 years a variety of simple, easy on the mess entertainment was in need. I had 3 things for them to do.

1. winter themed coloring + words pages (dollar store find)
2. play mat areas for the babies with a few toys from home (pink mats from Ikea)
3. goodie bags (silly me I forgot to take a pic!) with home made "snow" playdough + a goofie book
4. snowy sticky wall activity from @allienoflashcards on Instagram suggested to me by Jen at @mamapapabubba

It was the best two hours celebrating our girl. Lyla completely stole the show! She walked around hugging everyone she saw, she LOVED her cupcake, & best part.... there were no tears at all! This girl is made for entertainment which mildly worries me for the future haha. I can't believe one year has come & gone, looking forward to creating so many more amazing memories with her in year TWO.

A first birthday is always a special occasion, and the theme of "Lyla's Winter ONEderland" sounds like it could be a lot of fun! Winter wonderland themes are often popular for events around the holiday season, and it's a clever play on words to incorporate Lyla's age into the theme as well. I hope that Lyla and her family have a wonderful celebration and create many happy memories on this special day. lets edit birthday video beecut latest crack.
