Bloom Tulip Festival

Hello! Hope you enjoyed Tuesday post all about Abbotsford, today is an extension of that post. As I mentioned seeing the Tulip Fields was a bucket list item for me so naturally it was going to get its own blog post. Bloom is the Tulip Festival in Abbotsford located right off the highway but you can't see it because they have black fences up blocking the fields from the road. With the owners family originally from the Netherlands (home of the tulip fields!) it has become a family affair and how thankful we are to have them here in BC! The fields only last about a month, if lucky! This season the blooms were a bit later due to the long cold winter, I was really hoping for a full high bloom but we got just the end of the low bloom period. I would say 60-70% of the fields were in bloom but as you can see from my photos there is still a lot of green.

In this post I am going to share 5 tips I have learned on how to take the best travel photos. We all see the amazing images on Instagram with the outfits that match the scenery perfectly, or the image perfect hairstyle, the right sunlight and so on and so forth. It isn't by luck that all these factors come into play when out taking travel photos lots of planning and research goes into the mix. Below are 5 tips to help take the best travel photos and honestly make life less stressful when doing so.

5 tips for taking great travel photos

1. research where you are going a head of time: This is important so you know what to expect when arriving. It eliminates the stress of running around last minute or dealing with large crowds that get in the way of your shots. It also you to plan your outfits and accessories so when you arrive you already know what to wear. Also, if you need tickets or anything ahead of time you can be prepared!

2. plan outfits appropriate for your travels: If you have a vision in mind make sure you plan on taking the appropriate items to have that vision come to life. For example, I knew I was going to tulips so I wanted to make sure I brought a flowy dress in a muted color that wouldn't blend in too much but also wouldn't look too out of place. I loved the blue and white stripes, my second option was a white dress. If you don't know exactly what your vision is hop on Pinterest and get inspired. I do it all the time!

3. if possible visit your destinations in non peak hours: I am not a huge crowds person and Stephen definitely is not. I hate when random people are in the back of my photos and it causes unneeded arguments with Stephen and I when I am yelling at him to avoid those random people. If you have the option wake up super early and grab your shots before everyone else is up! We do this often, wake up before sunrise catch the perfect shots with the perfect lighting (it takes half the time!) then head home and I work while Stephen goes back to bed. This is often how most of our travels take place, romantic right?!

4. make sure you have your equipment and know exactly where it is: This is a tip I have learned the hard way and still continue to! I buy tripods, tripods for my phone, remotes, different cameras, etc. I used to never keep them in the same place and always found myself running around last minute or forgetting half the items at home. I now have a routine set where all my gear is organized in place with extra batteries! I pack it all neatly in a bag and make sure to actually bring the bag with me. If we are taking selfies, or self timers, or DSLR or simple point and shoots I am prepared!

5. dont miss out on the moment, take your photos then enjoy: This also was a hard one for me to learn, I would work so hard on taking the perfect shot but it was never enough. I always wanted more photos! I have learnt that I have set days and times for working and then set days and times for enjoying the moment and memories. Stephen is a big 'take it all in mentally' person while I am 'if I don't take the picture we won't remember' so we compromise!

Thanks again to Tourism Abbotsford for setting up our amazing weekend! We enjoyed seeing and visiting all that Abbotsford has to offer and can't wait to be back next year.
